The National Disability and Prevention Week
July 17, 2023
Helping people can be achieved in different ways. Everyone has their own method of giving assistance for those who in need. Example, when storms or earthquakes struck different parts of our country, the local government and the community help each other to reduce casualties. Another example, private organizations donate food, water medicine and jobs to the people in need. Informing people facts is another way of helping others. It helps spread public awareness and helps the community. Everyone should help one another.
Every month of July, we celebrate the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week. This week long celebration aims to help individuals with special needs and disabilities, spread awareness to the community and encourage people to help people with disabilities for them to become independent and have different roles in the community. It is a nation-wide celebration that consists of activities for learners with special needs, livelihood programs and seminars to parents, talent contests and free services from the local government. The schools nationwide also take part on this celebration. Last July 17, 2023, Monday, the local government of Batasan Hills celebrated the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week. The celebration held at the new barangay hall. On the first day, the barangay organized an opening program for different learners with special needs from different schools. The learners from San Diege Elementary School, with their parents and teachers participated.
The opening program was jam packed with activities and surprises. The venue was lively and happy. There were booths on the venue. You can pose in front of a camera or take a selfie in the DIY photobooth. Kids and kids at heart enjoyed the flavors of ube, cheese and cookies and cream on the ice cream booth. Parents may also enjoy and look more beautiful with the free haircut arranged by the barangay.

The Kagawads and Barangay Captain were there. They gave their speeches and thanks to the parents and teachers for the support to their children and to the local government. They organized a poster making contest for kids. Many learners participated and did their best to express their artistic side. Another part of the program was the intermission numbers. Children danced gracefully on the dancefloor accompanied with upbeat music and their dance moves. Even the Kagawads and teachers danced happily with the kids. The barangay officials also gave all the attendees vitamins and medicine and free porridge after the program.
