As a Phlebotomist, I am responsible for the important task of collecting blood
samples from patients and then preparing these samples for testing in a laboratory setting. This
role is typically carried out within the environment of hospitals and clinics, although some
Phlebotomists may also be involved in the collection of blood for donation purposes. Being an
integral part of the healthcare team, Phlebotomists frequently find themselves in the position of
having to explain the blood-drawing process to patients, often needing to provide reassurance
and comfort to help put the patient at ease during what can sometimes be a stressful experience
As a Staff-aide in Blood Services at the Philippine Red Cross, our primary
responsibility involves supporting the senior staff members in managing all aspects of blood
services. This includes conducting outreach activities for donor recruitment, overseeing blood
collection procedures like doing phlebotomy, engaging in interviews with potential donors
during large-scale blood donation events, ensuring the proper storage of blood units,
administering blood tests, managing the processing of donated blood, and coordinating the safe
supply of blood to various hospitals as needed.
