• Receive samples to be assayed, including processing the sample, checking sample identification and visual inspection of the sample.
• Perform all standard laboratory testing according to written procedure and protocols and reports results to head of section
• Assign proper classification to specimens and conducts initial processing to allow for optimal testing conditions in sections
• Prepare specimens for shipment and assists in the coordination of transportation of specimens to other laboratories outside
• Recognize abnormal results and report to the ordering provider indicating the report, the date, time, technologist initials and provider to whom results were given.
• Write the patient results to hospital information system (HIS) in case of machine communication error, in manually processed samples and if machine was not connected to hospital information system.
• Communicate panic results to appropriate physician, nurses or other health care provider.
• Perform daily instrument set-up, quality control on all equipment including the shutdown procedures within procedural guidelines.
• Document all quality control activities and follow written policies and procedures of the quality control program.
• Maintain quality control by running appropriate positive and negative commercial controls, along with patient samples and record results.
• Perform proficiency testing and maintains records accordance policy and procedure.
• Perform general administrative tasks such as inventory, restocking, ordering special media and checking daily lab charges.
• Do crossmatching and release blood units.
• Machine handles; Spincell (CBC machine), GEM 4000 and PT 1000 (Blood gas machine), Biolis 350 and Randox Imola (Chemistry Machine), Clover A1C (HBA1c), Liaison XL and Mini Vidas (for Hormones).
