• Performs a systematic initial and on going assessment of the patient’s physical and psychosocial status
• Assess patient/family discharge planning needs, educational needs and readiness to learn utilizing appropriate resources.
• Provides total, direct nursing care consistent with the plan of care and needs of the patients with respect for the patient’s privacy, dignity, personal preference and culture.
• Demonstrates priority setting skills and timeliness in responding to patient needs.
• Transcribes physician’s order and reviews nursing and medical orders for accuracy and appropriateness.
• Prepares, administers and documents the administration of oral, parenteral, and topical medications as prescribed by the physician.
• Intervenes appropriately in clinical emergency situations i.e. cardio-pulmonary arrest and initiating emergency measures by.
- Assessing the patient and initiating CPR if indicated and certified to do so.
- Alerting subordinates to summon for help and call for code blue, if necessary
- Informing the treating doctor to assess the patient for emergency management
- Never to leave the patient alone by himself
• Performs wide range of ICU nursing procedures/interventions with attention to accuracy, patient safety and comfort, including those requiring strict aseptic technique such as:
- Preparation of ICU equipment, blood components, and drugs to be ready for any emergency.
- Assists treating doctor for any ICU procedures
- Monitors patient for progress of blood transfusion process and records observations.
- Anticipates needs that may arise during procedures i.e., need for cross matching blood, ABG, central line insertions, etc.
- Observes patient for any possible complications
• IV therapy insertion maintenance/discontinuing per doctor’s order and hospital policy
• Collaborates with physicians to develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of care for patients under care
• Administers medication following the seven R’s of medication
• Constantly and continuously monitors patient for level of consciousness, vital signs, oxygen
saturation
