The role of the Able Bodied Seaman is to carry out all tasks and duties as directed by the Chief Officer or their nominee thereby enabling the Deck Department to operate in a safe and efficient manner.
The Ordinary Seaman (OS) is an unlicensed entry level member of the Deck Department crew. Performs work pertaining to general maintenance, repair, sanitation, and upkeep of material, equipment, and areas that are the responsibility of the Deck Department.
They are responsible for receiving, inspecting, recording shipments with raw material or products, unloading packages and checking their contents to make sure they match the orders and all items are intact and not damaged. They are also responsible for reporting a problem or discrepancy found in delivered items to shippers.
